If you are a baby boomer, you may decide it is time to downsize, perhaps move to a smaller, more manageable residence or condo community. Downsizing can be a daunting undertaking. It is hard to part from a lifetime of items that hold dear memories.
In today's fast-paced society, it's hard to find time to devote to any one task, let alone complete an entire TO DO list! Ordinary tasks become overwhelming. There are more important things in life than wasting away your precious free time laboring over a pile of papers, going through boxes or clearing a pathway to the basement!
Think about how times have changed. Thirty or more years ago the norm was a two parent family with a stay at home mom. She took care of the children and home while dad worked. Weekends were spent relaxing with family.
Skip ahead a few decades and what was the norm is now the exception. Today both parents are working full time outside the home and there are more single parent households. Many devote time to helping aging parents. Regardless, all these situations leave little time for enjoying life. Weekends are used for laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning and other chores.
Many seniors have time, but don't know where to begin or are physically not up to the task due to illness. Looking at a pile of papers or a room full of boxes can be an overwhelming experience.
Most of us have emotional attachments to items and feel guilty at the thought of getting rid of them, even though we don't use them. "No, I can't get rid of that, Aunt Mary gave that to me on my ninth birthday!" Sound familiar?
